Health, Wellbeing & Disability
50 Degrees brings global experience and insight to the design and development of health, wellbeing, and disability services.
Our team has direct strategic and operational delivery experience, opening up public sector commissioner and service provider perspectives to our clients across the whole sphere of service design and development. This includes 50 Degrees’ partner, Andy Bowie’s, former role as the Head of Commissioning at Manchester City Council, working with partners to design integrated health and care services and reform public health provision. In addition, many of our Managing Consultant team have held senior roles within healthcare commissioners and world-leading human services providers operating across the health, wellbeing, and mental health sectors.
We have particular expertise in developing services targeted at the marginalised and excluded. This includes people experiencing multiple and complex health barriers; we have designed services that support people in secure accommodation, including prisons, immigration removal centres, young offender and secure school accommodation.
We provide solution design, value proposition development, bid management, bid writing, and commercial modelling support to our clients.
Our track record
50 Degrees has a proven track-record in developing successful health, wellbeing and disability support programmes. We have developed in-depth service proposals (including a 1000+ page bid for pan-national health and vocational rehabilitation services); developed locally commissioned specialist mental health services; designed new operating models for flagship health and disability reform programmes; and designed back office logistics and facilities management services that keep essential services running (such as passenger transport).
Our experience includes:
Prison health services (Ministry of Justice)
Passenger transport services (NHS)
Functional Assessment Services (Department for Work and Pensions)
Work and Health Programme (Department for Work and Pensions)
Primary Care Services (NHS)
Rehabilitation services for veterans leaving the armed forces (Canada)
Disability Employment Services (Australia)
Our approach
We work in partnership with our clients, enabling them to access insight and leverage our experience of designing and bidding for vocational rehabilitation services that help people stay in or return to work through effective case management, targeted interventions and wraparound support.
Our deep understanding and expertise of functional assessment services within social security systems helps organisations to design and bid for independent assessment services. In addition, our solution design expertise, combined with our cross-sector knowledge, enables us to create services that bring together disparate health and employment services to better support people with complex health barriers to return to work in a sustainable way.
“50 Degrees supported Lawmed with our framework bid for NHS Scotland, working on the social value parts of the response. They kept us well-informed throughout the process and were easy to work with. Their support greatly contributed to the strength of our submission. Just don’t work with our competitors!”

John Ashworth: Managing Consultant
“The development of high-quality health, wellbeing and disability support services is integral to the delivery of effective public service reform. At 50 Degrees we’re genuinely passionate about supporting organisations, of all types, to design and deliver insight-led services, particularly for people with complex health barriers.
“The NHS has, for a number of years now, been grappling with the challenge of integrating more effectively with social care provision, and we see echoes of this integration challenge across our work with commissioners and service providers within health and employability provision.
“Our direct experience of working in health and employment commissioning, combined with our in-depth experience of working for and with leading service providers, gives us unique insight. And, it gives us the ability to connect organisations with complementary skills, and to design innovated, integrated services that support people with their health barriers and help them find sustainable work.”
