Employment & Social Security
At 50 Degrees, our core business revolves around employment and social security system reforms, with over 20 years’ experience spanning multiple governments and economic cycles. Our global expertise enables us to draw on insights and best practice from employment programmes, supporting people from a disparate range of backgrounds across the UK, Canada, the United States, Ireland, and Australia.
We specialise in supporting organisations to bid for and secure large-scale employment services contracts. Our track record includes flagship programmes such as the Restart program in the UK and Service System Manager contracts in Canada.
We help our clients to understand policy, labour market dynamics, and design effective solutions to support the delivery of employment services.
Our track record
Our expertise is rooted in our direct experience of designing employment service delivery models.
We provide research and advisory support to local governments on employment and skills strategies, translating policy intent into practical deliverables. Notably, we shaped the original Working Well pilots in Greater Manchester (UK) and have provided advisory services to Salford City Council and Lancashire County Council.
We have secured new business for clients in major government procurements of employment services globally, including Functional Assessment Services (UK), Restart (UK), Work and Health Programme (UK), Service System Manager (Canada), and Workforce Australia (Australia).
Our services include:
Solution design, spanning client and employer-facing services, vocational and non-vocational services, supply chain development, and service delivery strategies.
End-to-end bid management and bid writing support, delivered under tight timelines and across multiple geographies.
Commercial model design, including bottom-up commercial modelling, Financial Return on Investment (FRT) development, and commercial submission.
Our approach
We deliver an end-to-end service, enabling organisations to identify, design and bid for large-scale employment and social security system reform services, including employability, disability assessment services, benefits reform, and outcome-based commissioning.
Through our in-depth subject matter knowledge and international experience, we provide insights that enable our clients to effectively address today’s global employment and social security challenges. This includes designing solutions to tackle the rise in economically inactive populations, and supporting the development of evidence-based voluntary programmes that support individuals with disabilities and health conditions to secure meaningful, well-paid work.
We work collaboratively with our clients, leveraging our own expertise to supplement their subject matter knowledge to create effective, bespoke programmes. Our experience includes successfully supporting clients to bid for services that support and enable disadvantaged individuals. This includes enabling refugees, ethnic minorities, and indigenous communities to develop the necessary vocational and non-vocational skills to succeed in work.
We also support the development of integrated employment, skills, and health services models, to address complex barriers to employment, often within intricate commissioning landscapes.
