The Everesting Challenge: an update and a thank you
In our update last week we told you we’d be returning to our ‘usual’ posts this week, but we thought it would be a little churlish not to follow up with an update on Andy Bowie’s Everesting Challenge.
The short version. He did it.
The slightly longer version. After a 5am start, Andy finished the challenging of climbing the equivalent height of Mt Everest at 11pm last night. He was in the saddle for a total of 15hrs 46minutes (ouchy), covered a distance of 282.62km (175.6miles), and climbed a total of 8,925m. Given the height of Mt Everest is 8,848m we can only assume that the extra 77m was just a bit of showing off.
These things are never solo efforts, of course, and Andy had a great support team behind him (just like he does during the development of a high quality bid… do you see what we’ve done there?) and there’re a few thank yous to be made.
A huge thank you goes to all the riders that helped throughout the day – Lee McGill, John Boyle, Steve Marsland, Steve Adams, Tom ‘the PT Guy’, James Goddard, Barry ‘from down t’road’, Ollie Hart, Rob Lilley, the super fit Sheffield lads who Andy met during the ride, John Edwards and Phil. What a team.
And a massive thank you also goes to all the support team, those ‘lunatics’ that were out at 11pm supporting Andy in the cold and the wind… and to everyone that helped during the day.
What was it all for? Andy was riding in memory of his late father-in-law, Stuart Cunningham, to raise money for the Brain Tumour Charity. Thanks to the generosity of sponsors, so far almost £5,000 has been raised. If you’d like to sponsor Andy, well that would be just swell… thank you, you can do so here… https://www.justgiving.com/fundraising/stuart-cunningham-1
Next week. Back to ‘usual’. Probably.
